When running a VM it is important to install the VMware tools as this helps with the VMs performance.  Though, with a type-1 hypervisor it also provides us with additional details and features. 

The some of the benefits of installing VMware Tools on the Guest OS are:

• Time synchronisation between the guest OS and ESXi.

• Improved graphics

• More efficient use of memory

• Better support for your mouse

• Improved SCSI driver

• Ability to share folders and connect external drives

• Save space by cleaning up the virtual disk

• Better ability to shutdown or restart the guest OS.

Just imaging if you had 100's of VMs and you needed to manually check the status of each VMs VMware tools. It would be a tedious and boring job. Luckily, vSphere provides us an easy way to check the status of each VMs VMware Tools!
